Comments: Sh2-64 is number 64 in a catalog of 313 HII (emission nebulae) regions published by Stewart Sharpless in 1959. This cataog was intended to be comprehensive north of -27 degrees declination.

Regarding this image, I was very suprised to see the extensive nebulosity over lying this region. In fact. I was blown away to say the least!! Sh2-64 is the emission (red) nebula just left of center. The reflection nebulosity is of an unknown catalog -- or it has not been cataloged. I used Aladin to identify all the visual, IR, radio sources in this region and there is no mention of reflection nebulae. Maybe this is not a reflection nebula at all but a less dense portion of the dark nebulae is this region. This however would be strange due to the fact that it appears to stop towards the right of the image but the dark nebulae continue. Anyway, I wasn't expecting it at all!
